Keys to Unlock Learning

Right now it may feel hopeless, but we specialize in helping kids just like yours unlock success and confidence in school.

The Orton-Gillingham Method

The Grand Traverse Dyslexia Association is the only local educational center that uses this 1-on-1 systematic, multi-sensory phonetic instruction that students with dyslexia need to finally grasp and excel in the science of reading. Without this method, most students with dyslexia cannot learn to read and write proficiently, and will continue to fall behind in school.

Understanding Dyslexia:

A learning difference, not disability.

  • It's Very Common

1 in 5 school-aged children in the US have dyslexia. 90% of all learning disabilities are rooted in dyslexia.

  • Normal-to-High Intelligence

Students with dyslexia are just as capable and willing to learn as any child, but the typical classroom isn’t designed for their unique learning style, so they typically fall behind.

  • It's Hereditary

It is very common for immediate and extended family members to also struggle with reading and writing because Dyslexia is passed down through generations.

  • Struggles:

    - Delayed speech
    - Difficulty following direction and retaining information when reading
    - Mixing up letters and words
    - Dislikes reading
    - Behind in school

  • Strengths:

    - Strong spatial relations
    - Gifted in extracurricular activities
    - Highly creative – thinking outside the box
    - Excellent reasoning and problem solving skills

Whether you/your child are diagnosed with dyslexia or not, we can help!
